Al Bentley

I started windsurfing just before going to uni and was instantly hooked. I went fully nuts and was out sailing every day it was windy in the UK (also when it wasn’t), and spent as much time as I could abroad in top secret locations. At uni I studied Naval Architecture which is basically all about making things float – usually boats.

Anyone who windsurfs at uni will know about the infamous SWA events, take a bunch of pissed up students, put them on a freezing cold lake for a weekend with a massive party on Friday and Saturday night! In my second year I started doing the SWA freestyle competitions and was even lucky enough to land my first vulcan during a heat!! I kept competing in the SWA freestyle and wave comps while I was studying and have now moved onto the UWKA freestyle events and Xpression sessions. I’ve now become a working man, which is a shocker! I still manage to get a decent amount of time on the water but have started to do a lot of Turfdogging as the wind in the UK this year has been super rubbish. You can imagine the faces of the guys I work with when they see me doing it between 2 disused ships in the dockyard!
